I know what you’re thinking – didn’t she already make photo tote bags? Well this is just a variation on the theme of transfer paper, but it did turn out pretty cute so I thought I’d share the idea and photos. I made this little pillow for my stepmom for her mother’s day present. She likes to take photos of the grandkids together, so I used an older photo that included all of the kids (CJ was so tiny!).
I used a small travel-size pillow and basically made a removable pillow cover out of the blue fabric. First I printed the photo on transfer paper and then ironed it onto white fabric. I stitched the photo (now on fabric) onto the blue fabric, and trimmed it with striped ribbon and white lace. I used a satin stitch to hide the stitching on the ribbon and lace. I liked the look of the satin stitch so much that I used it to finish off the back envelope opening too.
I really like giving personal gifts. Now my stepsisters want their own photo pillows too!

This is so cute! My brother is dating someone very special and they are talking marriage. They are in that totally in love phase. So as to not let them forget, I am going to make them a pillow from a picture with his girlfriend just beaming as he kisses her on the head. It is the CUTEST! Someone made me one of my daughter when she was a baby and I just cherish it! I am hopefully going to give to his girlfriend as a Christmas gift — showing my support of their relationships!
what do you mean you ironed the picture instead of transfer paper I didn’t understand this

Tina,
Uhm…well it was meant to imply that the photo was already on transfer paper. So, it order to clarify:
1. Print photo onto transfer paper
2. Iron TRANFER PAPER photo onto fabric
Hope this clears things up for you.
Hi, this is such a great idea! But i have a question.. can’t you just iron on the transfer paper onto the pillow?
Hi Mary,
I’m not sure what you mean by ironing the transfer paper onto the pillow. My pillow is an insert that goes into a fabric cover. Do you mean I should iron it onto the fabric cover? I’m sure you could iron the transfer paper onto the fabric directly, but your photo won’t be very clear on colored fabric and this particular fabric has embroidered flowers, so the surface is not good for transfer paper. I hope this answers your question.
